Volunteer to work for AFAF
AFAF has no paid staff. We are, and hope to remain, an organisation that is made up of a network of academics, students, professional staff, and others (retired academics) who are prepared to give some time to defend free speech and academic freedom. Here is a list of roles and an outline of responsibilities that we would like to fill. These are official roles that will appear on our website. If you are interested email Dennis Hayes: director@afaf.org.uk
Membership Secretary
The role is a very straightforward one, to encourage students and academics to join our network.
Fund Raiser
AFAF has no funder and relies on small one-off and regular donations from members. We need to have enough money to meet our running costs.
Case Workers
Members with trade union, or legal experience, are needed to help with our case work. A training session will be available for volunteers.
Researchers
We have small and large research projects that individuals can and lead or participate in. Our Academic Freedom Research Network (AFRN) is based at the University of Buckingham.
Merch Supervisor
To oversee the purchase and selling of AFAF merchandise.
Designers
Experienced designers are needed to offer practical help with the SAFAF and AFAF websites, out newsletter and other communications.
Admin Assistant(s)
Checking and keeping the Banned List up-to-date is one of the roles on offer.
Reporter(s)
We need individuals to report on our events in their own personal style.
Professional Service Membership Convenor
At the AFAF conference it was suggested that we have a professional services section. We now need a convenor.
Steering Group Members
Members who are willing to help develop the work of AFAF in practical ways are welcome to join our new Steering Group. Contact AFAF if there are ways in which you can support our work. We have some volunteers and our first online meeting will be organised in the new year.
